Panama Trip - Day 4

Today we went into the city again. There is a hill in Panama City which is the highest point in the city. We found our way up the hill. As we were going up, we came to a shed on the road. The man in the shed held up his hand like he was indicating that we couldn't go any further. We finally figured out that he only wanted us to wait. We waited for a while and two cars came down the road. Obviously the road from that point up was only one way and so they used a walkie-talkie to communicate if people were coming down. When we reached the top of the hill the view was beautiful. On the very top of the hill is the Panamanian flag which can be seen from everywhere in the city. A few pictures from the top of the hill.

This is a picture looking into the city from the top of the hill.

This was a pretty little bug we saw along the way.

Just put this picture in to prove that we were actually there.

This shows the flag that flies on the top of the hill.

After that we went to the store and then headed back to the hotel. We had lunch and the hotel and then we went Kayaking on the beach in front of the hotel. That was alot of fun. It was easier than I had thought it would be. I was sure I would tip the kayak over but it didn't happen.

Then we got dressed and went to attend a session at the Panama Temple. It is a beautiful building. Below are a couple of pictures of it.

The courtyard in front of the main entrance to the temple.

The session was in Spanish so we used earphones. I listened to the session in German which I really enjoyed and understood everything since I was somewhat familiar with what was being said. It was a great experience.

On piece of trivia about the temple. The temple district consists of all the stakes and districts in Panama plus one other country. Can you guess which one? The answer is Jamaica. The reason for this is interesting. Jamaica is actually closer to the Dominican Republic. But Jamaica and the Dominican Republic do not have diplomatic relations so you can't go from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic. So the Jamaicans had to fly to Panama and then enter the Dominican Republic from their. So when the Panama Temple opened, the church assigned them to it. This was told us by a temple missionary.

After the session we headed for our hotel. It was another great day.
